The criticisms are about the lack of shooting, but for me that's not a problem. Quite the opposite, because the melee combat is very well done. You learn a lot about Japanese traditions and customs.

A rip-off from Konami, who decided to sell a cheesy drama for 13-year-old girls with an Asian fixation under the Silent Hill brand. Ryukishi07 has completely run out of steam and, instead of a proper psychological thriller, has churned out a story about a pubescent track and field athlete, Hinako, who is so afraid of marriage in patriarchal 1960s Japan that she gorges herself on homemade pills from a childhood friend and experiences bloody highs, staging her own wedding under the guise of fighting monsters. The game is very decent, although it might appeal more to fans of Japanese culture. The awkward combat is both challenging and disciplined, and the game has a strong story, so I recommend playing on the lowest difficulty level for combat, and on the hard and higher difficulty level for puzzles. NG+ adds additional content, allowing you to achieve multiple endings (a series tradition), and the game itself isn't very long. Overall, I definitely recommend it. Considering the brutal Japanese horror in some episodes, it's not for kids.
