CRSED: F.O.A.D. is a free-to-play first- and third-person shooter in the battle royale genre. It was released on Steam Early Access in 2018 as an independent project, originally developed as one of the modes of the WWII shooter Enlisted.

In most aspects - game mechanics, graphics, shooting sensations - CRSED: F.O.A.D. is very similar to PUBG: Battlegrounds, many even call it a free version of the famous shooter. The developers themselves are striving to make a free alternative to PubG with some deviations from realism in favor of interactivity and fun.

Bantering the gaming industry is one such digression. During the battle you can find not only rifles and pistols, but also a lot of kitchen utensils. There are pots and colanders on the battlefield that can be used to make formidable armor. Of course, the frying pan still cannot be used for its intended purpose, but hitting an enemy over the head is quite possible.

In Cuisine Royale, instead of carrying a backpack-equipment on his back, the player can carry a bag in his left hand and a saucepan on his head. All this has its own physical model and flounders provocatively when running or shooting. The name of the game itself, “Royal Kitchen,” is also one of the fun references.

You can also find many other items that will help in battle. For example, indoor slippers for fast running, with the function of high jumping over fences and other obstacles. In between fights, you can always replenish your health by snacking on chicken - it is given here not only to the winner.

CRSED: F.O.A.D. uses the concept of gladiators in the arena: each match takes place on medium-sized maps, where 15 to 36 players fight, depending on the multiplayer mode. The world is constantly shrinking, pitting players against each other in wild battles, where a thick-walled frying pan or a strong rolling pin can have the final say.

The round time does not exceed 15 minutes, which maintains the intensity of the gameplay and makes players experience new sensations.

The game contains all the classic elements of a serious shooter - the character has indicators of armor, fatigue, health, three slots for weapons of 6 types (melee, pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, machine guns, rifles), modules for improving them, equipment and various ammunition. From head to toe, the character can be dressed in 11 separate pieces of armor.

Setting CRSED: F.O.A.D. borrows the WWII theme from Enlisted. In Early Access, players had access to 1 map in Eastern Europe, but the number of maps will grow.

The game world is a large plain with fields, meadows, forests, rivers and small villages on which there is equipment from the early 20th century, buildings of the corresponding architecture, as well as their numerous ruins. You can go into any house on the map, open all the rooms and search them.

As in any other “battle royale”, players find themselves in different places on the map - respawn points are determined randomly. All characters start unarmed and in their underwear, so it's necessary to immediately look for weapons, ammo, gear, and various cool armor.

Loot boxes in the form of refrigerators are scattered throughout the level, and you just need a bit of luck to get quality gear — unlike in PubG, in CRSED: F.O.A.D. you don't need to memorize the locations of useful hideouts, chests, and caches on the map.

All the main victory tactics from PubG apply to CRSED: F.O.A.D. — you can run around the map and compete in accurate shooting, or you can hide in one place and move extremely stealthily to search the bodies of already killed enemies. The game features basic transportation that simplifies movement across the level.

The creators of CRSED: F.O.A.D. added several unusual mechanics. One of them is the “High Cuisine Seasons” — 10 weeks dedicated to a specific country. During the Season, players receive recipes and can craft a variety of items: underwear, masks, costumes, and much more.

All of this is related to the country that the season is dedicated to. For example, during the Italian Season, players could craft a Don Corleone mask. And during the “Wild West” Season, players could make a luchador wrestler mask, wear a sheriff's uniform, or dress as a Native American.

Crafting items is a permanent feature; all created items will be saved to the account, which links CRSED: F.O.A.D. to classic MMOs. The ingredients for crafting vary widely: enemy tears, reviews from frightened critics, secret kitchen utensils, and more obscure items. They can be obtained by reaching a new level or completing daily and weekly quests.
